Amy Jackson:
Character Name:
Amy Wilkinson aka Durai-amma
Wow.
What a bomb!! It’s been really long since I have seen such a mesmerizing
face in a Tamil movie; Amy has such an energetic presence that lit the
screen up with beauty and elegance.
The
Costume designer and Cinematographer need a special mention to get the
dress and lightings right to match her skin-tone.
It’s
hard to believe that Amy Jackson, a former Miss Teen Britain & a
lingerie model could actually possess such an immense talent in acting.
I
predict Amy to steal a lot of young heart in the forthcoming days!!!

Story:
WARNING----MAY CONTAIN
SPOILERS---
I couldn’t help but notice the
likeliness of the movie’s screenplay with that of the yesteryear’s
blockbuster LAGAAN like the Costumes of main protagonists, the
introduction RAIN-Song, anti-hero’s characterization and couple of screen
sequences in the movie…but once you get warmed up to the movie, you stop
noticing them and likely to get yourself immersed into it.
Also a great amount of research has
gone into the making of the Movie, with the foremost intent of getting
the looks of VINTAGE Chennai and Director had nailed it however it could have been even more jolly-good if
few historical factual errors could have been avoided in the Movie. (Example: The Indian Flag at 1947,
Police uniforms, Revolver models, Gandhi’s snapshot etc.,)
Having said that, there were a lot of
fine moments of realism in the movie which was an absolute delight
to watch like the Airport-Foreigner hijackers and the comical interlude
that follows and the fight of Kusthi for between the Arya and Alex
and of course the final fight sequences.
In the end, Madarasapattinam is a
romantic story about a forbidden love, at a time of which was of grave
importance to the Indian History.
Its neither breezy nor fresh but
delivers good performance

Arya:
Character
Name: Parithi
Once
again a decent job. All the hard work to get the physique right shows
Arya’s dedication to the storyline.
Arya is
simply too good in the Action sequences and it is really one of the main
elements which made the movie quite enjoyable to watch. Kudos the Action
choreographer & Arya.
The
same however could not be said about his acting skills. The emotions are
predominantly single dimensional and needs a lot of homework.
Some
tips in Kolly-wood:
1. Need
to look good when RUNNING in slow motion.
2.
Romantic look does not mean sad-puppy look. Shouldn’t be hard when you
get Actors like AMY to practice on.

Special
mention:
Alex O’Nell
& Carole Trungman
Character
Name: Robert
Ellis & Aged Amy Wilkinson
Maybe
because of the characterization but it was a pleasant performance by
these two Brit actors, in-fact better than most of their Indian
counterparts.
Alex’s
was FIERCE (performance)& Carole’s was a restrained. A delight to
watch.
Ticket Value: 50
bucks for the pair

Verdict:
A Delightful watch. If the
Director could have been a little more brave to forego the cliché’s, this
could have been a Great movie.
195-200 = -5 Rs.
A definite one-time
watch, at-least to see the CGI works to depict namma “Madrasapattinam”
